Although we were unable to find an exact ingredient list for VitaTrim, we did find an ingredient list for VitaTrim Pro™, the same basic product from the same company. This ingredient list includes Garcinia Cambogia, Hoodia Gordonii, Gymnema Sylvestre, L-Carnitine, Potassium, Vanadium, Fucoxanthin (edible brown seaweed), Selenium, Chromium and Magnesium.

Garcinia Cambogia is a fruit from an evergreen tree native to India. Its high content of Hydroxycitric Acid (HCA) gives it its popularity in weight loss formulas. HCA has been known to prevent sugars from being converted into stored fat. The result is that more of the glucose is burned as energy. However, this effect has not been proven in humans.

Hoodia Gordonii contains the P-57 molecule, a molecule that simulates glucose when communicating with the central nervous system, fooling the brain into believing you are full. By doing so, the body can consume fewer calories and lose weight more effectively. The Hoodia in VitaTrim Pro™ comes in a 20:1 extract, a weaker extract of this particular ingredient. Because of this, the effects may not be as strong as they should be. However, this ingredient is still a proven and safe non-stimulant hunger suppressant with no known side effects.

VitaTrim Pro™ also contains Gymnema Sylvestre Extract, which contains Gymnemic Acid. Gymnemic Acid simulates glucose in the system and often replaces glucose in cell receptors in the lining of the intestines, preventing the uptake of sugar molecules. This helps balance blood sugar and lower blood sugar levels.

L-Carnitine is associated with the transport of fatty acids into the mitochondria of cells—the powerhouses of the body. This transport helps the fatty acids become energy instead of being stored as fat. The result is more energy and less weight gain. L-Carnitine also has implications in diabetes, helping to improve glucose storage in the body.

Potassium is vital to cell health and the transmission of essential nutrients through the cell wall. Vanadium is similar to insulin in the body, reducing blood sugar levels.

Fucoxanthin is a natural seaweed that helps break down the white adipose tissue (white fat) around the abdomen in order to reduce overall body weight. Selenium is a part of essential amino acids in the body.

Magnesium and Chromium both play roles in the conversion of carbohydrates, protein and fat into energy, and Chromium also has a positive effect on blood sugar levels. However, neither of these are usually considered primary active ingredients, but more of just “helpers” in supplements.

This formula overall provides some excellent ingredients, but we feel that these ingredients are not always the best options, and some of them are not the most effective extracts. Hoodia is an impressive ingredient, but in weak formulation, it doesn’t do the good that it could. Most of the other ingredients are only moderately effective in regards to weight loss, but it does appear that this supplement may help with overall health. We still suggest that consumers discuss taking this supplement with their doctors beforehand.

The official website for VitaTrim is part of the New Spirit Naturals site. The site is efficiently and attractively designed, keeping both functionality and appearance in mind. The links are easy to understand, and the site is easy to navigate. Information is plentiful for each product, but we were disappointed to see no customer testimonials for the products. There were also no clinical studies available to support any of the supplements, leaving us to believe that these supplements may not be as effective as they advertise. Beyond these omissions, the site itself is very well designed and does a fine job of advertising its products.

VitaTrim Pro™ is available through its manufacturer’s (New Spirit Naturals) official website. One bottle of the supplement (a 30-day supply) retails for $26.21, a very reasonable price for a dietary supplement—especially one containing Hoodia Gordonii. This puts the supplement in an interesting place in terms of price, though. If the Hoodia were genuine or in high enough concentrations to be effective, the supplement would be more expensive (Hoodia, due to its high demand and difficulty to harvest, is a very expensive ingredient in today’s market). We feel that consumers may be paying too much for an otherwise rather ineffective supplement in terms of weight loss. We were also unable to find any guarantees or return policies, and there were no certification documents for the Hoodia.

VitaTrim Pro™ offers its consumers a very honest look at its formula, stating that the most effective way to see results with this product is to include both a healthy and balanced diet and a regular exercise routine with the supplement. We believe this is a very accurate statement, but we also believe that consumers may find that the supplement will do little beyond helping regulate blood sugar. The ingredients are simply not that effective, and the only proven ingredient is the Hoodia Gordonii. However, the Hoodia has no certification for its authenticity, and the price doesn’t show the high cost associated with pure Hoodia. This doesn’t leave much to make this product a great diet supplement. Instead, we feel consumers would be better served to simply save the money and follow the exercise and diet advice the product suggests without the supplement.
