Yerba Mate is a species of holly native to South America. It may be an effective stimulant, but it delivers Caffeine to the body, just as Guarana Extract does. However, it is purportedly less potent than coffee, and gentler on the stomach. Guarana Extract is derived from a climbing plant that produces fruit with seeds that contain approximately three times more caffeine than coffee beans. Pregnant or nursing women should not take this supplement. Those taking medication already should consult a physician.
