The 20/30 Fat & Fiber Diet Plan |
 |
Review
Summary |
Most people recognize that they could and should be eating better. Healthy eating is often the Achilles’ heel of so many dieters. Busyness, love of convenience, and other pitfalls continue to factor into decisions toward poor eating habits. That’s why Dr.’s Gabe Mirkin and Barry Fox have written their book The 20/30 Fat & Fiber Diet Plan. This review will take a closer look at this program to see if it really can help dieters get their eating habits on track and to see how that might play into overall weight loss.

Based on Dr. Mirkin’s bestseller, The 20 Gram Diet, this book goes a step further to prescribe not only limiting one’s fat intake to 20 grams a day (down from the recommended amount of 65g for a 2000-calorie diet) but also making sure to eat 30g of fiber each day. Mirkin and Fox lay out an entire meal program centered on low-fat (but not fat free) and high-fiber foods such as beans, veggies, and whole grains. From recipes to tips on eating out, the book aims to help people get 19 out of every 21 meals within the guidelines. This allows dieters two “cheating” meals per three weeks. The program also instructs readers to eat until they’re full, not until they’re stuffed. From the authors’ perspective, such high-fiber foods will actually filled up dieters faster and keep them filled thus lowering their overall caloric intake. There is also a chapter on “Playing for Better Health” which appears to speak of exercise in code language.

 | Conclusion |
|
Dr. Mirkin and Dr. Fox are both accustomed to writing books in the field of nutrition and/or wellness. This book seems to take a fairly good approach toward healthy eating. If it can help people gain control over their diet habits and make serious changes then it is surely worth its weight in salt.
However, dieters must remember that healthy eating is only one component of effective weight loss. This discipline must also be combined with regular exercise habits, which the book seems to touch upon. Dieters should also drink lots of water to stay hydrated and free from toxins. Lastly, if you are seeking to lose weight, don’t discount the idea of adding a supplement with safe ingredients proven to suppress your appetite and improve fat burning. Such a product may increase your potential to make headway in these efforts. Talk with your physician about finding the right one for you. No matter which path you choose, safe and effective weight loss must be fueled by patience and determination on your part.
