Ma Huang Extract, or Ephedra, is a source of Ephedrine, which is an amine similar to amphetamine and methamphetamine. In the diet industry, it has been used as a stimulant and appetite suppressant. Ephedra has been banned, however, for its adverse effects on the body. The list of these effects indicates that Ephedra can have a negative impact on many parts of the body, including the cardiovascular, dermatological, gastrointestinal, respiratory, and nervous systems. Symptoms may include arrhythmia, sweating, nausea, increased urine output, restlessness, confusion, panic, hostility, agitation, shortness of breath, headache, and many others. Nobody should take products containing Ephedra.

Chromium has become extremely popular in dietary supplements. It may help to stabilize blood sugar levels and help synthesize cholesterol, fats, and proteins. The nut may also possess stimulant and euphoriant properties and have effects similar to those of cocoa, tea, coffee, guarana, and yerba mate. Kola nut will affect the nervous system and the heart and may also have fat burning properties.

Siberian Ginseng is prized in herbal medicine for its energizing capacities and for its appetite stimulation. It is used in extreme conditions as an adaptogen. Pregnant or nursing women should not take this supplement. Those taking medication already should consult a physician.
