Cortisol |

Review
Summary |
Cortisol is a hormone naturally produced in the human brain. It has many functions, and in recent years it has been connected to weight gain and fat retention around the midsection. Cortisol is known commonly as a “stress hormone.” This is because although it is secreted in a normal pattern of high levels in the morning, which decrease with the passing of the day, this pattern can be disrupted by stress. Although high levels of Cortisol can also be connected to legitimate disorders like Cushing’s Syndrome, there is evidence that stress plays a major role in the elevation of the hormone.

 | Supplements |
|
Over the past several years, some supplement manufacturers have capitalized on the theory that elevated Cortisol levels lead to weight gain and difficulty with weight loss by marketing products that claim to block the effects of the stress hormone. These supplements can be found under a variety of brand names and sold both online and on drug store shelves.

 | Price |
|
The cost of these Cortisol blocking supplements varies widely. The price you can expect to pay depends on the brand name, where you find it, and the quantity you purchase. It seems that many of them, however, currently average around $30 for a one month’s supply.

 | Qualities |
|
The connection between stress and weight gain has always been discussed. When people are stressed it is said they are more likely to increase their caloric intake without even realizing it. In addition, some may be less likely to exercise, further leading to weight gain. However, the connection between stress, a naturally occurring stress hormone (Cortisol), and weight gain and retention is a fairly new topic. There are studies that suggest adults in the United States have some of the highest levels of Cortisol in the world. By reducing stress and therefore Cortisol levels, some state that weight loss can become much easier.

 | Final Facts |
Cortisol is a hormone produced in the brain. Production of this hormone is said to increase fat retention, particularly around the midsection. It is said that this hormone is increased when a person is under physical or psychological stress. In other words, the stress and weight gain connection may be due, in part, to Cortisol. There are several dietary supplements now on the market that claim to block the effects of Cortisol, thereby assisting people with their weight loss attempts, despite their possibly high stress levels. You can read more about Cortisol on the official website.
