Some manufacturers even purport using their colon-cleansing product as a weight loss method or as a way to flatten your abdomen, the even more outrageous claims tout that colon cleansing can prevent some diseases.

This product contains a proprietary blend of Rhubarb, Psyllium, Licorice Root, Ginger Root, Fennel Seed, Goldenseal, and Cascara Sagrada.
You probably won’t be surprised that the “advertising” for Colon Relief did not go into detail about the ingredients and so we have to rely on other sources to tell you a bit about the formula. The propriety blend contains the usual suspects in a fiber laxative—Cascara Sagrada being the most potent ingredient. Cascara Sagrada contains compounds called anthroquinones, which are responsible for cascara's powerful laxative effects. The anthraquinones trigger contractions in the colon, called peristalsis, which causes the urge to have a bowel movement. Psyllium husks are used to relieve constipation, among other bowel troubles. Regular use of Psyllium is believed to improve and maintain regular waste transit through the gastrointestinal system.
The use of Rhubarb, Licorice, Ginger, Fennel, and Goldenseal further infuses the formula with properties that may relieve constipation, diarrhea, digestive pain, reflux, and heartburn. In other words, the Colon Relief may actually give some relief to the upper digestive system as well.

In regards to a product named Colon Relief, we found ourselves just wanting the manufacturer to say anything that might convey what the product might do to bring relief to the colon. We found one sentence on one website that described Colon Relief as a product that promotes colon health and elimination of toxins, and then takes a few parting shots by proclaiming, “Look great, Live Great. Feel great.”

It’s generally a good idea to take some time of fiber supplement to increase the amount of fiber in your diet, however, continual use of a laxative, even a natural one like Cascara Sagrada is believed to promote reliance on the product for achieving bowel movements. Perhaps Colon Relief might be a good product for occasional use but for everyday supplementation, it often proves best to look for a non-stimulant fiber supplement.
