A digestive cleansing formula referred to as CleanStart™ is advertised to clean the body from the inside out. The manufacturer, Nature’s Sunshine, claims colon cleansing provides health for every tissue and cell in the body. The formula is purported to support the everyday cleansing of digestive waste and toxic waste that may have collected in other organs of the body and “dumped” into the bowels for elimination. It is said that body tissues must be free of toxins that can get in the way of normal bodily functions and CleanStart™ is claimed to be the best way to improve the digestive system to work like a precision-crafted machine with “dirt-free” internal workings that are critical to health.

The propriety blend in Clean Start contains many ingredients; some are Cascara Sagrada bark, Buckthorn bark, Psyllium Hulls, Aloe Vera, Stevia Leaf extract, and Bentonite. The advertising does not go into detail about the ingredients but we think it is important that you know something about the ingredients.
Psyllium husks are nearly always used in digestive cleansing products because they help to relieve constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, diverticular disease, and diarrhea. They are also used as a regular dietary supplement to improve and maintain regular GI transit. Some recent research is also showing them to be promising in lowering cholesterol and controlling diabetes.
CleanStart™ uses Bentonite powder in the formula because it is believed to be one of the most effective natural intestinal detoxifying agents available. Bentonite powder works in the body much like a sponge by attracting and absorbing toxins before being eliminated by the body. There is some support for how it improves intestinal regularity, relief from chronic constipation, indigestion, diarrhea and ulcers.
The formula contains Stevia, which is native to subtropical and tropical South America and Central America, it is commonly known as sweet leaf. As a sugar substitute, Stevia's taste has a slower onset and longer duration than that of sugar.
