Review
Summary |
CLA or Conjugated Linoleic Acid, refers to a family of at least 13 isomers of linoleic acid found primarily in meat and dairy products of ruminants. CLA is a trans fat claimed by some to be beneficial rather than harmful, like many other trans fatty acids. CLA is produced by microorganisms in the rumen or ruminants. Various antioxidants and anti-tumor properties have been connected to CLA and studies done on some laboratory rodents show a reduction of colon, skin and mammary tumor growth. The supposed problem with this is the insufficient amount of concentrations to achieve anti-inflammatory results in human tissues via orally ingested supplements. Some human studies show CLA may have a tendency to reduce body fat particularly in the abdomen, and also decrease whole body glucose uptake. Side effects such as oxidative stress and the reduction of insulin sensitivity have been found.

Several online sites sell CLA products and the most reasonable we found was a site selling 90 capsules for $14.99. Safflower Oil is a rich source of polysaturated oil that in its natural state can provide vital hormone-like compounds that strengthen cell membranes and regulate every function in the body at a cellular level. 3 capsules per day is recommended meaning one bottle will last for a month.

There was no one official website for CLA, although information regarding the ingredient is plentiful, albeit hard to understand without some scientific background.

 | Final Thoughts |
|
CLA may be helpful for overall health and nutrition, but is not the best supplement for weight loss due to its unproven nature in that area. While it may have some effects on reducing fat in the abdomen, there are better and safer alternatives available. If you are seeking a weight loss supplement, be sure and choose a product with ingredients that address both aspects of successful dieting. A proven fat-burner is needed to address excess fat on the arms, belly, hips, thighs and buttocks, and a modern appetite suppressant is needed to control caloric intake and help curb cravings. Effective weight loss happens when both dieting needs are addressed. Add a healthy eating plan, and exercise – and you will have success.
